Corpse Reviver An Uncanny Kingdom Urban Fantasy The Spectral Detective Series Book 2 eBook David Bussell MV Stott Reviews
What a great sequel to Fresh Hell. Jake is back and just as obnoxious, but in a great way, as before. The book was full of wisecracks and blundering around as he tried to solve the latest rash of ghosts. Now that his police contact DI Stronge can see the real him, more funny conversations and scenes abound. Just like the first book I was hooked by the end of the first paragraph and read it all at once to see what trouble Jake would get into. I was not disappointed! Full of hysterical scenes, one liners, crazy friends/uncommon contacts, and a good mystery thrown in to round out the story I was not disappointed. Even though I was given a free copy this book, this is my honest review - it was worth the read. I never stopped laughing.
I received a copy of this book from the author and was happy that I did! I am a huge fan of Rob Thurman and have been waiting on the newest book in the Cal Leandros series and this book sounded like it would be right up my alley. This book was fantastic it has the same wit and humor like watching an episode of Sherlock and a book with a ghost that has learned about being a P.I. from film noir gumshoes is an interesting twist on both the mystery genre as well as ghost stories. I always appreciate a book that takes something familiar and makes it new. I was a little disappointed because I ended up reading the second book in this series first but now that I know how good the second one was I'm excited to read the first one.
The characters play off each other well and Jake Fletcher is an amazing character which makes this book enjoyable and very readable. For anyone who likes a fun book with great characters and likes urban fantasy...this series might be your new obsession! I am eager to read other books set in this world and excited for future books in this series.
Life is tough but it's downright tricky once someone's killed you. For Jake Fletcher, death was the start of a new career as a PI -- to his fellow ghosts, those stuck with unfinished business, which sometimes is finding who done for 'em. I loved this series from the first page of the first tome (not tomb) read. Bought the entire set, but reviews can't just stay with the set, they need to be with the story in requestion...and there's no question that I am now a Jake Fletcher fan girl...or is that a David Bussell one? Certainly recommend ALL the Jake Fletcher books and intend to lose myself in Bussell's other series as well. When you find something you like, stick with it!
Jake Fletcher says, "I help my clients find their way to the spirit world. Why? to offset some of my own bad mojo." His allies Stella, made out of magic and spit about sixty-years ago as an enforcer to knock seven bells out of London’s Uncanny bad guys; DCI Stronge, his human connection to the police, and Jazz Hands, his source of magical accessories. Jake has a fairly ordinary complement of ghost powers—invisibility, intangibility, translocation, able to possess the living. An exsanguinated corpse is a murder suspect, but had already died two days BEFORE the murder. Vampires? Zombies? No, worse. Jake finds out who is reviving corpses, and why. But bringing the murderer might be "out of Jakes pay-grade". A fun read, lots of funny dialog, descriptions and similes; interesting characters, very imaginative plot.
I loved it! If was interesting, funny, and I am completely enthused to read more from David Brussels! So much so, that I immediately bought three of his books just 'cause I like the way her writes. Bless his heart, he seems to think like I do. ;)
Quick read - the book pulls you in and you can't put it down. Populated by varied and interesting characters - can't say more without giving things away. Jake's snarky and feisty as ever but there's that sweet side - he's a good guy. I love this clever, fresh take on death and the afterlife.
Another thoroughly entertaining romp. Jake Fletcher, the British Harry Dresden, will take you on an adventure and have you in stitches throughout. Highly recommended for fans of paranormal action/adventure tales. Bussell has himself a protagonist that will live on for many more tales.
Jake Fletcher has to cope with suspicion from people he is trying to help into heaven, and with evil entities from the other side, so you will enjoy his friends and his ability to cope. Even the archangel Adonael must appreciate his work eventually... surely?
I recommend this book to all readers of supernatural tales.
