Chris Stone has one passion in an otherwise staid existence; fishing. Stuck in a soulless job and a failed marriage, he decides to do something truly radical with his arid life give it all up and put a 'gone fishing' sign on the door. But he wants to fish with a difference. He wants to catch fish that have seldom, if ever, seen humans before. To do so, he has to fish in the most dangerous places in the world. What follows is a roller-coaster adventure, from being hijacked by a murderous gang in South Africa, kidnapped by Marxists in Colombia, escaping Islamic fundamentalists in Chechnya and finally fighting for his life in the far outbacks of Canada. Along the way he unwittingly embarks on a journey of discovery and romance far removed from the concrete confines of his previous life. He meets an array of people; outlaws living on the hard edges of society, revolutionaries who believe it’s more fun to be Che Guevara than Bill Gates, outdoorsmen who live the ‘soul’ of the planet, and beautiful women who, like him, are running from reality. Some are honorable; some despicable. But none are boring. He also catches fish he previously only dreamt of.
The Apocalypse Chase Fishing in the world most dangerous places Mr Graham Spence Books
If you enjoy adventure and the thrill of a dangerous voyage, read this story. Spence has a knack for creating exhilarating action scenes for the many surprise challenges his MC, Chris Stone, experiences, particularly the ocean storm scenes where a rogue wave nearly claims Chris' life before he reached Madagascar. The writing is often poetic, at least to a seafaring man: "...they pushed the shallow-draught 20-foot vessel out through the small breakers creaming lazily onto the beach."Reading this multi-locationed tale, I was reminded of Jack London stories. The wildness of nature and Chris' appreciation of the hunt, or rather the fishing, was painted in vivid imagery. The description brought me to the Columbian coast and the Caribbean Sea as he hooked bonefish, gar and best of all, a fifteen-pound permit, king of the flats. But Chris was not stopping. Next he fished in Chechnya for giant browns, then Labrador for even bigger ones before ending in Alaska's prime salmon fishing area. Each trip brought a surprise and challenged Chris' survival skills to the limit. A pleasure to read. Five stars.

The Apocalypse Chase Fishing in the world most dangerous places Mr Graham Spence Books Reviews
An easy read but a bit too far fetched? So much to happen to one person and to survive it all...
Enjoyed the pace with which the central character moved between countries. Also, having lived in South Africa for the past 60 years, I was able to relate with the authors comments
A brilliant story about a guy who just wants to explore the love of his life, which is fishing. Author takes us to unusual countries and we get such a good insight into the challenges and dangers of the countries, whilst he looks for the unexplored fishing spots.
While reading I wondered how the author knew so much about fishing and the locations visited. I know a little about the fishing and he told a very believeable story. I very much like the way Spence writes. Looking forward to reading more.
I really enjoyed this author's journey to find himself and what's really important...learned a lot about living wild and fly fishing...his other books were also very good...
I could not put the book down as I just had to know what was going to happen to Chris. Graham obviously loves fishing and he definitely knows his stuff. I know nothing about it and found it difficult to understand how anyone could put himself through so much in order to catch a few fish. However, Graham, with his very descriptive writing succeeded in educating me about the addiction.
It was a good read and I hope sells lots of copies!
Excellent book. Graham Spence is a great author. His books with Lawrence Anthony are first class Highly recommend. Lots of errors in printing but still a fantastic book.
